About
This senior level high school course uses major novels, plays, and poetry selections from British literature as the basis for studying and applying in-depth reading, writing, speaking, listening, research, and critical thinking skills. The development of British literature is covered, as well as the corresponding social and historical movements of Great Britain. Students entering this course should already possess many of the skills necessary to produce a well-written composition (i.e. the proper use of grammar, vocabulary, word usage, punctuation, correct spelling, etc.), however, composition and grammar instruction will be provided as needed to help students "fine-tune" their writing and develop their own voice. Because much of good writing is achieved by good editing, students are encouraged to self-edit and should expect to write several drafts of any assigned papers. Compositions will consist of multiple in-class timed writings, in-depth literary/analytical essays, several creative pieces that may be used as possible drafts for college essays, and a large end-of-the-year career research paper to help students identify and articulate future goals. ***This class will be taught over zoom (date and time TBD)*** Textbook/materials: Adventures in English Literature – Heritage Edition (ISBN 0-15-33509-4) Grammar for Writing, Level Gold.
